According to a report, The Attorney General of India, Mr. K.K. Venugopal, on April 8 informed a Bench comprising Justice L. Nageswara Rao and B.R. Gavai that appointments of DRT members to the vacant posts are complete.
In certain states such as Odissa, Debts Recovery Tribunal was non-functional for the last three years.
This is certainly good development as the non-functioning of various Debts Recovery Tribunal benches was keeping many important cases of debt recovery from being heard. As a result, many litigants were approaching High Courts for immediate reliefs as there was no functioning DRT in concerned state.
There are about 39 Debts Recovery Tribunals and 5 Debts Recovery Appellate Tribunals functioning all across the country.
